Rookie Gary Pelky Grabs Second Feature Triumph Of His Freshman Year |

 Ovid, Michigan (Saturday, July 17, 2010): To close out the evening, the 20-lap Shattuck Specialty Advertising Pure Stocks Feature ended the night as the “black and blue” division of the Big “O” were eager to get back out onto the 3/8s mile after taking last weekend off. 19-year-old Steve Pelky II, the Rookie of the Year Points Leader coming into the night, and 2009 Rookie of the Year Ron Hart brought the field down to the D-L Auto Sales start / finish line.
Pelky II, who would be celebrating his 20th birthday on Sunday, July 18th, was hoping to give himself the best birthday present of all, his first career feature win, would lead the first two laps before Rick Gokee Sr., got around on lap three and he brought Fast Qualifier and Heat Race Winner, Kevin Adkins with him. Adkins was looking to finish off the “Hat Trick” by sweeping the entire night.
Unfortunately for the 2008 Track Champion, his night would end on lap seven when his motor exploded going into turn one and with a trail of oil behind him, everyone took evasive action as his Father and Uncle, Hurley Adkins and Fred Adkins both slid in the oil and crashed into the turns 1-2 wall. Fred Adkins was done for the night, but Hurley Adkins was able to continue after pitting to make repairs while the clean up was ongoing.
Gokee Sr., maintained the lead but now he had Pelky II and his Uncle, Gary Pelky behind him. The elder Pelky got around his nephew and set his sights on Gokee Sr., In the meantime, Current Points Leader Bob Robinson, who had an off night in Qualifying and would start 13th, worked his way past both Pelky’s and challenge Gokee Sr., for the top spot.
With five laps to go, contact between Gokee Sr., and Robinson sent Gokee Sr., around. Robinson immediately “tapped out” thus giving the lead back to Gokee Sr., who again had the Pelky’s behind him. On the restart, Gary Pelky would steer his way underneath Gokee Sr., to take the lead for himself while Chris Wood, who started 14th, also got by Gokee Sr., and set his sights on Pelky.
However it would be Pelky’s night as the 47-year-old Swartz Creek, Michigan rookie in his More Power Performance Engines Chevrolet would fight off Wood and the remainder of the pack to score his second Feature Win of his Freshman season and draw closer to his nephew, Steve Pelky II in the chase for the 2010 Rookie of the Year title.
Wood finished a career high second with Gokee Sr., Pelky II, and Robinson, who fought his way back through the field to wrap up the Top Five. Ricky Moore was sixth with Hurley Adkins coming back to finish seventh. 12-year-old Vinnie Miller was eighth as 17-year-old Dale Spencer, and 18-year-old Eric Lake were the final Top 10.
Kevin Adkins won his third Shattuck Specialty Advertising Fast Qualifier award of the season as he toured the 3/8s mile oval at a 19.272 and he won his Heat Race. Lake won the other Heat Race.
