We are extremely pleased and excited to announce that we have several brand new sponsors for the 2012 season! Chet's Auto Service along with Economy Print & Graphics are first time sponsors of our Sportsman Division. We also have a first time sponsor for our Modified Division with Liskey's Auto & Truck Service!
I've been getting some notes lately that I would like to share with everyone. Some are great!; Some are good; Some are not so good; but I would like to share them as I come across them. I won't be posting the authors names unless the author insists that I do. Here's the first one:
I did not get a chance to meet you on Saturday, I just wanted to take a second and thank you! I must say I have raced at a lot of different racetracks and you guys run one of the best shows my team has been a part of! Your officials were all very nice and appreciative (way different than we are use too) to have our cars there. I'm not sure what our racing plan is for next year but if we decide to keep racing modifeds it will most defiantly be at your racetrack.. Once again THANK YOU!
Although the racing season is over there is still much to do this year before we put a cap on 2011. Anyone interested in helping out would be earning some credit towards future racing events. Here is what is on our list before we close the facility down:
In the past we have always waited until spring to repair and paint. This year we would like to try to get many of those projects done yet this fall. We have a pretty good supply of paint and lumber on hand that won't do us any good sitting in the storage room so I'm hoping that some good fall weather will help us out and then we won't have to worry about what the spring time is going to bring. We have both indoor and outdoor painting to do.
All five divisions were on the schedule for the first time in 2011 for Season Championship Night. All of the Track Champions and Rookies of the Year would be crowned.
23 Cars lined up for the Big O Classic 100 for the JEGS / CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts. The first-ever appearance at the Owosso Speedway for the Champion Racing Association based out of Indiana.
DeWitt, Michigan’s Chad Finley would lead the field down to the green flag to start off the 100-lap grind. Finley would set a torrid pace early on, with no one in the field able to give him a true challenge for the top spot.
While every other paved track in the state of Michigan was closed down thanks to the wrath of Mother Nature, the Owosso Speedway waited out the weather and ended up having beautiful weather for the night events. Qualifying was cancelled due to the weather, otherwise the program ran as planned.
Rick Gokee Sr. would be the polesitter for the 20-lap Shattuck Specialty Advertising Pure Stocks feature. Gokee would quickly be forced to contend with Vinnie Miller, as the 14 year old driver lead the opening three laps. Gokee Sr. would rebound to lead lap four, but
The Owosso Speedway did something few Saturday night tracks could say they did last Saturday, actually getting their show in, despite rainy conditions all over the state, a large crowd got to see some great racing action and an awesome intermission concert from Country music star Dewayne Spaw. Unfortunately due to Mother Nature, qualifying was canceled and heat races were lined up according to a pill draw, with the finishing order from the heats helping to determine the starting line ups for the four features.
