The Owosso Speedway did something few Saturday night tracks could say they did last Saturday, actually getting their show in, despite rainy conditions all over the state, a large crowd got to see some great racing action and an awesome intermission concert from Country music star Dewayne Spaw. Unfortunately due to Mother Nature, qualifying was canceled and heat races were lined up according to a pill draw, with the finishing order from the heats helping to determine the starting line ups for the four features.
Scott Parisian would lead the field down to the green for the Shattuck Specialty Advertising Pure Stocks 20-lap feature. Hurley Adkins would get around Parisian to lead the opening lap, but by lap three, points leader Russ Cords would get past Adkins to take over the top spot. Defending Track Champion Bob Robinson would get to Cords, and would be all over the Morrice, Michigan drivers back bumper. Robinson would finally get by on lap 18, but it would be short lived as Cords was able to wrestle the lead back one lap later. Cords would go on to take his second consecutive and third overall win of the season with Dave Parisian coming home in second, Robinson third and Hurley Adkins and Pat Standley rounded out the top five. Jimmy Stratton and Dave Parisian took heat race wins.
Next up would be the Turbo Blue Michigan Legends Series for their second of three appearances at the Owosso Speedway during the 2011 season. Tony Monge would lead the field down to the green. Monge, a former feature winner at the Owosso Speedway, would see Two-time Series Champion John Turnbull Jr., get around on lap three. Turnbull would quickly have his hands full as 2010 National Legends Cars Champion Chance Rice would be all over his back bumper. Rice would finally claim the lead on lap 13 and would remain out front for the rest of the 30-lap contest. Chance Rice would win his second feature of the season at the Owosso Speedway with John Turnbull Jr., Loren Short, Grant Quinlin and Matt Todd rounding out the top five. Heat races went to Matt Todd, Sean McPherson and Chance Rice.
18 Drive Train Specialists Modifieds would be on hand to put on a show for their 30-lap feature with 2007 Sport Stock Track Champion Alex Donnert and 1999 Shiawassee Shores Pro Stocks Track Champion Steve Rollins leading the field down to the green. It would be Rollins out in front as the field came back around to the line. In the meantime 12-Time and Defending Track Champion Bill Luckhurst would be working his way up to challenge Rollins for the lead. On lap nine Luckhurst would lay claim to the lead, but he would soon have to contend with Dave Christensen and Trevor Berry and both drivers used everything in their arsenal to try and get by the Ovid, Michigan driver, but it would be to no avail. Bill Luckhurst took his first feature win of the 2011 campaign. Dave Christensen came home second with Trevor Berry, Todd Matheson and Rod Laney rounding out the top five. Heat races went to Trevor Berry, Rod Laney and Dick Maurer.
21 Shiawassee Shores Pro Stocks were in attendance for their 25-lap feature event to close out the night. Chris Begg would lead the field down to Jeremy Slayden’s green flag, but it would be 2008 Track Champion, and current Affordable Tire and Service Center Pro Late Model Points Leader Leo Smith taking over at the line. As Smith paced the field Don Riley would slice and dice his way through the field on a mission to get to the front. Riley would challenge Smith, and take over the top spot on lap 14. Riley would pull away to take his second feature win of the season. Leo Smith would come home second with Dave Buswell, Tony Basalone and Kevin Harder rounding out the top five. Riley, Basalone and Harder would take the heat race wins.
Next Saturday night looks to be a huge night of racing at the Big “O” as the Affordable Tire and Service Center Pro Late Models highlight the show for the 54-lap Harold Morence Memorial, along with the Winged Warriors of the Auto Value / Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint Series for their final appearance of the 2011 campaign. Also on the card will be the Shattuck Specialty Advertising Pure Stocks, Owosso Speedway Sport Stocks and $100 to win, $50 for second place Spectator Drags! The following Saturday will see the Drive Train Specialists Modifieds on hand for the final time before Season Championship night, along with the Shiawassee Shores Pro Stocks, Shattuck Specialty Advertising Pure Stocks and Owosso Speedway Sport Stocks. Every Saturday night racing begins at 7pm!
