Everyone that is familiar with Owosso Speedway knows the name Corbin Kelley. If you don't know him, he is a newcomer to the Front Wheel Drive division from Pompeii, Michigan. He has been driving as number 54 for the past two years now. While he may not have much experience as a driver, he is definitely the one to keep an eye out for! Corbin won the very first heat race and feature that he ever competed in, and just won the 2022 FWD championship at Owosso Speedway! He has grown up in a huge motorsports family and loved to watch his uncle race. He knows that his great grandpa Harold and his grandpa Kelley raced too, so of course, he wanted to follow in his family's footsteps and do what comes naturally to them. His great grandpa has always been an idol and role model in Corbin's life, especially when it comes to racing. His great grandfather raced for 20 years and had absolutely perfect attendance within that time. That says a lot about his dedication and love for motorsports, and that is exactly what Corbin wants to be like. Not to mention, the effect that NASCAR driver Eric Jones has had on many young racers like Corbin. Eric was a small-town guy that did his best, and it is paying off for him now. Now Corbin is doing a great job learning how to handle the ropes within the Front Wheel Drive division, and it is a huge accomplishment to win a championship during his second season of racing, but he has still had some losses. His trick to dealing with it? Simply looking back on the videos of his losing race and figuring out exactly when and where he made mistakes to learn from it in the end and do better next time. He has an amazing support system to get him through those rough nights too. Short of all his fans and other friends, he always has his dad (Jeremy), his nana (Elaine), and his grandpa (Bing) by his side every step of the way. Not to mention his pit crew; Cole Workman, Kaden Huss, Robert Wright, Mikayla Kelley, Lily Kelley, Zach Kelley, Butch Morence, and all of his sponsors; Boom Lake Trucking, Mel-A-Good Bakery, Dentmaster, Zemla Farms, Gratiot County Karts, Finish Line Seamless Gutters, Sundance Parts Department, Bing Crosby Sundance Sales, Out of the Wild Taxidermy, and Dragon Audio. Everyone has become like his family at the race tracks every weekend, and it has been his favorite thing to look forward to on race nights. I asked him what his favorite track to race at was, and he had a hard time deciding. So many different tracks around the state of Michigan have great aspects. For Corbin, he likes the environment at Birch Run Speedway the best, but in terms of speed, it is Owosso Speedway all the way! He can't wait to get back out there and try out the brand new Daytona mix asphalt! During this time, he is doing everything he can to prepare for such a big race season that is making such a fast approach. When he isn't working hard at Sundance GMC in St. Johns, he is getting his race car ready for opening night. This year Corbin will be driving a brand new Front Wheel Drive race car as he makes his way towards a repeat championship! We all know he is capable of it, and we are ready to watch all of our talented drivers compete during the 2023 race season!
