Driver Profile Interview: Nick Lechota

Nick Lechota is a popular third generation race car driver, from Clio, MI. He has been racing for 20 years and had his debut in his #22 Purestock. Now, he drives the #12 Modified, Street Stock, and Sportsman cars. He’s not easy to miss on race days, as he pulls into the race track with his cars loaded into the largest toterhome I have ever seen! You can see the bright blue and yellow from a mile away. His wife, Tiffany, and their two kids, Evan and Ellie, love supporting Nick at any track he goes to. Nick Lechota is a third generation race car driver and it is great to see the fourth generation of racing in his family begin as we get to watch his son, Evan, race mini wedges at only six years old. While racing has been a long-standing tradition within his family, I still asked him what his favorite part of racing is and what keeps him racing. He said that he loves the ingenuity and creativity that is involved in building all of the cars. Outside of that, he feels like racing teaches you so many great life lessons and drives you to be better in all aspects, on and off the track. Of course he’s had his fair shot at some wins. He has won 20 features over the last five years. Including taking home a Modified Championship from Owosso Speedway back in 2017. However, you win some and you lose some when you race competitively. When Nick Lechota loses a race that he thought he had in the bag it is frustrating. He said that he tries his best not to be a sore loser and gets right back to work. He likes to take notes on absolutely everything and he uses them to continually try to make his cars faster. When I asked him what his favorite track is he said that it would have to be Owosso Speedway because he has had some of his best wins there, including his championship. With that being said, he plans on continuing to race at Owosso Speedway in the 2023 season on the brand new asphalt and to be able to experience and share all of the excitement surrounding the track right now. Not only does he race for fun, but Nick and his wife (Tiffany) will also be putting together the second Down Right Awesome Night next race season with proceeds going towards down syndrome awareness. Nick Lechota has a great crew with him at the race track throughout the summer including Tiffany, Johnny Hayden, Alv Hall, and his father-in-law Larry. As well as the sponsors that help his racing happen. Nick is sponsored by Showcase Auto Sales, Mt. Nick Lechota has had a great racing career so far, thanks to the team he has built.
