Taylor Takes Owosso Triumph

With over 100 cars packed into the pit area, the stars of the Owosso Speedway lined up for a full night of exciting racing action.

The Reefer Peterbilt All-American Trucks would be the first feature of the evening. It would be “more of the same” as Zane Cruz continued his dominant rookie campaign by picking up yet another feature win. Cruz would make it to the front starting almost dead last in the starting line up. Brad Reseigh came home second over Greg Long Jr., Tony Hart, and Greg Long III. Josh Shaw and Cruz were heat race winners, while Cruz started off an eventual clean sweep of the night with the quickest qualifying lap at 18.729.

Three features for the MacAllister Rentals Sport Compacts would happen next. First up would be the C Class. Craig Cummings and his Chevrolet HHR would make their first appearance of the season count by taking the hatchback to victory lane. CJ French would finish a season high second over Billy Edwards, Ryan Ward, and Marcus Starnes. Damian Watters would win his first B Feature of the season in an exciting race. Randy Moore would finish in second ahead of Dan Hassard after an intense battle for the runner up spot. Jeff Asmus and Adam Whitaker completed the top five. Keeping with the theme of first time winners, Eric Spencer would win his first feature of the season in dominating fashion in the A Division. John Eastman Jr. would come home second to maintain his points lead, Nick Murdock was third with Mitch Dorin the final A car. Heat races were won by Spencer, Asmus, Bobbi Jo Jernigan, Billy Edwards, and Marcus Starnes. Spencer was fastest in qualifying with a 17.416.

The Durotech Automotive Street Stocks would compete next. Jim Miller Sr. would win his second straight feature, but this time he really had to work for it. Bo Smith and Ron Hart would keep Miller honest en route to the repeat victory. Tim Lahar and Chris Munson would find themselves at the back end of the top five when the checkered flag flew. Fred Cummings Jr. and Bo Smith would win the heats while Lahar was fastest in qualifying with a 16.381.

26 Valley Truck Center Modifieds would be on grounds for their feature event, and it would be another hotly contested race. Aaron Taylor would pick up his first Owosso Speedway victory of the year after a string of top five finishes. Jason Parish came home a season high second, with Terry Trost in the final podium spot after debuting a brand new chassis. Blake Rowe would finish fourth in his second start of the year, while Tim Lahar would have his second top five finish of the night. Kale Asztalos, Parish, and Taylor would take heat races while Lahar was fast qualifier in yet another division with a lap of 15.242.

The final event of the night was the M&K Truck Center Pure Stocks. Jim Miller Jr. would follow his Dad’s example picking up the victory in an exciting main event. Jason Spencer came home runner up after challenging several times throughout the event. Nick Johnston would finish third after taking several weeks off. Brent Voris would come home a season high fourth, Bryan Thompson would cap off the top five. Andrew Burton and Miller would win the heats while Dan Gokee set the mark in qualifying with an 18.118.

Earlier in the day the Showcase Auto Sales Mini Wedges were in action. Jackson Wheeler won the Senior Division over Abby Maurer. Brentley Evans was the Junior Division winner over Danica Mason, Kash Tremble, and Kate Maurer.
