Amazing Car Counts, Aggressive Action Greet Fans on Opening Night
124 cars packed the pit are for the season opener of the 2025 racing season at the Owosso Speedway, celebrating the 86th anniversary of the first season of racing at Michigan’s Oldest Active Speedway!
32 Alderman’s Kubota Late Model Sportsman would show up for an amazing show. The front four cars would slice and dice on the quest for victory. Brent Jack, making his return to competition, would lead wire-to-wire but it was no small feat. Jack would even withstand a hard fought battle with his own son, Former ASA/CRA Super Series Champion Hunter Jack. When the dust settled Brent Jack took the win. Trevor Berry, filling in for Jon Beach came home a strong second, Hunter Jack settled for third. 2024 Championship Runner-up Brandon Barcus was fourth, over Tanner Jack.
Heat race winners were: Jerry Artuso, Howard Kelley, Race Bible, and Hunter Jack. B Feature winner was Hunter King. Fast qualifier was Trevor Berry with a lap of 15.247.
44 Flory Crane Rental Sport Compacts were at the Speedway for the opening event of their season. Fast Qualifier Matthew Elsey Jr. accepted the Kimball Midwest Challenge, electing to start dead last in the feature, and would be eligible for a $1,000 bonus if he won. But he would need to overcome his own dad Matt Elsey Sr. in our second straight father-son battle for victory. With just a couple laps remaining, Elsey Jr. overtook his Dad, took the win and claimed the bonus. Elsey Sr. was second, Defending Champion Damian Watters, Randy Moore, and Chris Elwell completed the top five.
Heat race winners were: Evan Jenks, Andre Newman, Kenedi Jernigan, Lex Jarecki, and Elsey Sr. B Feature winner was Andre Newman. Elsey Jr. was fast qualifier at 17.037.
31 Valley Truck Center Modifieds were on hand. While the feature ended up being an endurance race, a great battle occurred between two former Track Champions. David McManus and Nick Clemens would duel for numerous laps before McManus would continue his late season hot streak from 2024 and take the opening night feature. Clemens was second over Damian Lytle, Nick Lechota, and Brad Springer.
Heat racer winners were: Josh Sevenski, Fred Cummings Jr., Tim Lahar, and McManus. B Feature winner was Cummings Jr. Fast Qualifier was Lonnie Saumier with a 15.136.
The final event of the night was the Meyer Electric Pure Stocks. Numerous great battles would take place throughout another endurance race. Lonnie Saumier would win the race to the front, going on to claim the opening night victory. Jordan Lechota was second over Jim Miller Jr., Bryan Thompson, and Jeff Metdepenningen.
Heat race winners were: Talen Diehl, and Jordan Lechota. Fast qualifier was Jason Spencer with a 17.986.
